Bleeding Polyp in the Stomach

Bleeding Stomach Polyp This 75 yr old man had symptoms of heartburn which were due to acid reflux through his hiatal hernia. During his gastroscope examination, this bleeding stomach polyp was found. Note that it is bleeding. The bleeding was stopped by cauterizing it with the scope and the polyp was removed. Biopsy showed it to be pre-cancerous, but not cancer yet. Blood tests showed a mild anemia which responded to 4 weeks of iron pills. The anemia was felt to be due to the slow invisible loss of blood from this polyps. The patient's heartburn was controlled with Zantac.
