Anastomosis: A Surgical "Seam" in the Colon This short video segment was taken during a colonoscopy in a patient who had colon cancer surgery 12 years ago. The area of cancer was sucessfully removed and the two ends of the remaining colon were reconnected with metal staples. Here you can see the oval-shaped surgical "seam" where the colon was reconnected. The medical term for this seam is anastomosis. Above the anastomosis, you can still see two small metal staples from the operation 12 years before - one silver and one black. Best viewed via a broadband connection such as cable modem or DSL service. A 56K dialup modem may take up to 10 minutes to load.
